Body scrubs are super easy to make at home and you know they’re not full of nasty chemicals too. Why open your purse and splash out on an expensive body scrub when you can open your kitchen cupboard instead and the best part about making your own scrub is that you can customise it to exactly what your skin needs at the time because sometimes your skin is dry or it can need a little bit of extra hydration sometimes. We’ve scoured high and low for the most recommended recipes online so you can have glowing skin all year round.
The Soothing Scrub
This scrub uses a combination of oats and olive oil. Oats are perfect for sensitive skin and olive oil is rich in antioxidants and is ultra-nourishing. Rub in circular motions across your body whilst in the shower and then rinse off, allowing some of the oil to linger on your skin.
- 1 cup of quick oats
- 1/2 brown sugar
- 1/2 olive oil
- 8 drops of essential oil (grapefruit enhances circulation)
The Sensitive Skin Scrub
Honey is one of nature’s super healers so it’s really effective at treating a number of skin conditions. Honey has also been know to repair skin tissue and protect against UV damage whilst also combating body acne.
- 1/2 brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 cup of oil of your choice
The Nourishing Scrub
Coffee is super high in antioxidants so when used properly in a body scrub it can fight against aging as the caffeine can stimulate blood flow and dilate blood vessels giving a tightening effect. Once in the shower brush upwards towards the heart to incase blood flow.
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fine coffee grounds
- 1/4 teaspoon liquid soap
- 2 drops of essential oil
The Face Scrub
This body scrub can also be used on the face. Honey has natural antibiotic properties and has antimicrobic properties making it excellent to combat skin conditions and Almond oil is packed full of vitamin E which may help protect from skin damage and signs of aging.
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 2 tablespoons almond oil
- 4 drops lemon essential oil
- 3 drops orange essential oil
The Tingling Scrub
Because of the combination of salt and lemon, you should feel some slight tingling even after you’ve removed the scrub as its exfoliating powers still working. The magic of the two ingredients will penetrate the skin and the dead layers will be broken down
- 4 tablespoons Himalayan salt
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
The Glowing Scrub / Mask
This gentle scrub can be used as a hydrating mask when left on for 15 minutes. A great way to reduce inflammation and keep your skin glowing and hydrated. Work in a circular motion when applying and then wipe off with a warm washcloth when dried.
- 3 tablespoons of oats
- 2 tablespoons of yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of honey
The Healing Scrub
Epsom salts are the hero in this scrub as they’re a gentle exfoliant and a trusty muscle relaxant. The recipe calls for green tea which is one of the best antioxidants on the market too, combined with lavender essential oils, this makes for an utterly relaxing scrub.
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 5 drops of lavender
- 3 teaspoons of Epsom salts
- 2 teabags of green tea
The Lip Scrub
Flaky chapped lips are one of the most uncomfortable and irritating things imaginable. and unless you’re pairing your favorite balm with a lip scrub, you aren’t doing your chapped, flaky skin any favors. Mix these ingredients in a small jar and then apply to lips and rub in circular motions for a minute. Rinse off with warm water.
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of honey
